The old Siglap Secondary School had been long-abandoned, and was about to give way to the new Kampung Siglap Retreat Centre. Placeholders was an art festival aimed to bring awareness to the new social enterprise, inviting artists to make interventions in the defunct classrooms.

I chose a classroom taken over by termites, and used paper pulp to interact with the natural patterns of their trails and nests. This was a final act of memorialisation for their temporary home, drawing attention to its transient and derelict beauty, and itself mimicking the bloom of new life.
